Santorini, Greece

view from the ship

We tendered to the shore of Fira (or Thira, same thing) and bought tickets at an office right near the dock to jump on a small and very fast boat to bring us to Oia for about 20euro per person. That price also included a bus transfer from Ammoudi Port up to Oia, 90 minutes free time in Oia, and a bus ride back to Fira. To get back down to the dock from Fira, you can take a tram for about 5euro, take a donkey ride (which the ship's highly suggest you DO NOT do) or walk up (which we did bc the tram line way VERY long).

As soon as we got into Oia, we walked over to see the beautiful Santorini view that everyone always imagines when they think of Greece. It was not a disappointment. The view of the crisp white buildings carved into the cliff of this crescent shaped island overlooking the beautiful teal water, was a sight you could only imagine. Walking around the island was even more of an experience. It was easy to get lost in the maze of all these small streets weaving through the island. Santorini is full of tons of beautiful shops, restaurants and art galleries. We were in Oia during the morning and planned on eating lunch in Fira. After walking the streets and doing some window shopping, we hopped on a bus to ira.

Fira was so packed! We popped into a few shops but we were on a mission to find a good place to eat. We stumbled upon a restaurant that had lots of room for the boys to roam and had free wifi. I wish I remembered the name because not only was the food amazing, the owners were so friendly and loved our boys! The restaurant was huge and had an amazing view overlooking the cliffs and water. It also had a small garden full of fruit trees and herb plants.

After stuffing our faces, we started heading back to the dock. The line for the tram was insanely long so we decided to walked down. I have to warn you, if you decide to do this, make sure to be wearing closed toe shoes (which I strongly believe you should be doing while traveling in Europe anyways) and it is very smelly because of all the donkeys.

We enjoyed our day in Santorini. The views were amazing and the food was so good! My mouth is still watering from the fresh tzatziki and yummy lamb from lunch!
