Innsbruck

After spending a couple nights in Grainau, we headed out early in the morning to head to Innsbruck, Austria to show Abby some more of the beautiful alps. We have been before but we looked forward to going again.

Innsbruck, Austria

The following morning after our hike to Höllentalklamm gorge, we wanted to go see Zugspitze. This was our second attempt since the first time we had poor weather. This time is was foggy and junky weather as well and we did not want to pay over 50euro each to see clouds. So instead, we ventured into Austria for a last minute Innsbruck trip. We saw it was about an hour away from Gramisch so we bought an Austrian vignette for 8.70€ (this one is good for 10 days) and headed South.

We found city parking and headed into the city for lunch. When we walked into altstadt (old city) we were greeted by a brass band playing on the balcony, the Goldenes Dachl (the Golden Roof) which was built in 1500 to celebrate Maximillian and his bride.

I was not prepared for our trip to Innsbruck and wish I did some research before our trip here. I would of loved to go to the Hungerburg funicular or travel the Nordpark Cable Railways. O well, maybe next time ;)

Here are some beautiful pics of our drive home.

three months

You are turning out to be quite the little world traveler, Randolph. This month your Grandma and Grandpa came all the way from America to see you! Shortly after they arrived we went traveling all around Germany and even Austria. You were a wonderful traveler and I couldn't have asked for a more chill and relaxed baby. Even though we have been traveling you are still sleeping 10 hours straight at night.

Here are some pictures of our travels over the past couple of weeks.

Salzburg, Austria & Berchtesgaden, Germany w/ Parents

During my parents trip this month, our big trip was to the Salzburg/ Berchtesgaden area. On our way there, we stopped over to see Neuschwanstein Castle. You can see my post here about it.

Rob and I visited last fall with USO (here is my post) but the weather wasn't the greatest and knew this would be the perfect opportunity to go again. We stayed at the Holiday Inn Salzburg City. It was a bit of a walk to the center of Salzburg but it wasn't bad. We got a pretty good deal and also found a deal where parking was included.

Our first day we went to the Kehlsteinhaus (the Easgle's Nest). After we parked and bought our tickets we had to wait about 25 minutes for our bus. The bus ride was an adventure in of itself. When we arrived there we found an english tour guide for a few euros per person. We all walked through the tunnel and went up on a gorgeous elevator to the famous retreat that was given to Aldolf Hitler for his 50th Birthday. The Eagle's Nest is situated on a ridge at the top of the Kehlstein mountain 1,834 m (6,017 ft).

The following day my Mom and I had fun shopping and eating treats around Salzburg while Rob and my Dad went golfing in Berchtesgaden at Obersalzberg in Berchtesgaden. It is a 9-hole golf course that is Germany's highest course (1000m),  and has amazing views of the mountains.

my favorite place for coffee and treats is Cafe Tomaselli

After golf, the guys met us for dinner at St Peter Stiftskeller.
It is the oldest restaurant in Europe, est. 803.

Here are some pics of the guys golfing.

Make sure to see my next post on Lake Königsee.
