three months

You are turning out to be quite the little world traveler, Randolph. This month your Grandma and Grandpa came all the way from America to see you! Shortly after they arrived we went traveling all around Germany and even Austria. You were a wonderful traveler and I couldn't have asked for a more chill and relaxed baby. Even though we have been traveling you are still sleeping 10 hours straight at night.

Here are some pictures of our travels over the past couple of weeks.

Lake Königssee TAKE TWO

WARNING: this is a very heavy photo post

Lake Königssee with Rand
Last October Rob and I went to the Salzburg/ Berchtesgaden but the weather was not the greatest. You can see my post here. We swore we would go back and when my parents came to visit us, we thought it would be the perfect opportunity to go back. The first few
days we stayed in Salzburg (here is my post from Salzburg) and then stayed down in the Berchtesgaden area to go to Lake Königsee.

I won't bore you with the same pictures but I will show off the wondrous beauty of Lake Königsee in the sunshine! Lake Königssee is probably my favorite place in the world and I know after seeing these pictures you will want to go too. It is absolutely breathtaking!

When you first arrive you will see a HUGE parking lot. After walking down a cobblestone street surrounded by a bunch of souvenir shops, restaurants and a few little B&Bs you will see the most beautiful sight in the world (in my opinion). To the right is the ticket office for the boat ride for the lake. We boarded the boat at the docs in Schönau am Königssee for a 40 minute ride in a silent electric boat on the most beautiful lake in the Alps. We stayed on the boat to Obersee and walked to lake Obersee and to see more unbeleavable beauty. When you get to the boathouse take the path to the right (through a gate). It is about a 30 minute walk (took us about an hour bc we have a newborn and wore the wrong shoes) to the top of the lake where we enjoyed fresh buttermilk with bread and cheese at a ridiculously cheap price. The walk to the other side of the lake is a bit of a hike and not stroller friendly. Rob walked a bit further to get a better look at Röthbach Waterfall (Röthbachfall) which is the highest waterfall in Germany, with a vertical drop of 470 metres (1540 ft), it was a pretty far and hard hike, so I stayed behind with my parents to put our feet in the water and take more time to relax and enjoy the view.

During our visit to Berchtesgaden, we stayed at was the Pension Berganemone. The owner, Mrs Kupper is wonderful, she makes you feel like you are at home. Rooms are clean and comfortable. The views are amazing, and it is very quiet. Mrs Kupper knew the best places to eat, and her breakfast was perfect! Here is a link to the Pension Berganemone.

That evening we went back out to the little picturesque town, Ramsau to get a picture in front of church Saint Sebastian. It took some convincing to get my parents to drink the water from the spout but they finally gave in and drank it.

Salzburg, Austria & Berchtesgaden, Germany w/ Parents

During my parents trip this month, our big trip was to the Salzburg/ Berchtesgaden area. On our way there, we stopped over to see Neuschwanstein Castle. You can see my post here about it.

Rob and I visited last fall with USO (here is my post) but the weather wasn't the greatest and knew this would be the perfect opportunity to go again. We stayed at the Holiday Inn Salzburg City. It was a bit of a walk to the center of Salzburg but it wasn't bad. We got a pretty good deal and also found a deal where parking was included.

Our first day we went to the Kehlsteinhaus (the Easgle's Nest). After we parked and bought our tickets we had to wait about 25 minutes for our bus. The bus ride was an adventure in of itself. When we arrived there we found an english tour guide for a few euros per person. We all walked through the tunnel and went up on a gorgeous elevator to the famous retreat that was given to Aldolf Hitler for his 50th Birthday. The Eagle's Nest is situated on a ridge at the top of the Kehlstein mountain 1,834 m (6,017 ft).

The following day my Mom and I had fun shopping and eating treats around Salzburg while Rob and my Dad went golfing in Berchtesgaden at Obersalzberg in Berchtesgaden. It is a 9-hole golf course that is Germany's highest course (1000m),  and has amazing views of the mountains.

my favorite place for coffee and treats is Cafe Tomaselli

After golf, the guys met us for dinner at St Peter Stiftskeller.
It is the oldest restaurant in Europe, est. 803.

Here are some pics of the guys golfing.

Make sure to see my next post on Lake Königsee.
