Rüdesheim am Rhein

We have now been to Rüdesheim twice before (and it was just the other day) but both were for weinfests. This time for strictly for sites and food and I was eager to show off this beautiful city to my Mom and sister. We left early in the morning to pick them up at the Frankfurt airport and went straight to Rüdesheim am Rhein. It was a great "Welcome to Germany" trip! We drove over near Bingen and parked (for free) and rode the car ferry for 2euros each. It was cheaper than paying for the car and paying for parking in Rüdesheim.

After strolling around the cobblestone streets, we headed up in a gondola, over the vineyards, to look out over Rüdesheim and the Rhein river. We went back down to have a delicious German lunch while listening to a piano player in the restaurant courtyard.

Rüdesheim Weinfest

When we first moved to Germany, Rüdesheim Weinfest was the first outing that we went to. Ready for an oldie but goodie...

2 years and a baby later, we find ourselves once again, heading to Rüdesheim weinfest!

Rüdesheim am Rhein Weinfest

Our new friends invited us to a wine fest at a nearby village called Rüdesheim am Rhein. It was about an hour away and we had to jump on a fairy to cross over the Rhine river to get into town. Rüdesheim is the quintessential German fairy-tale town. It is a winemaking town in the Rhine Gorge and part of the UNESCO World Heritage Site.
We walked down Drosselgasse which is a quaint little street in Rudesheim that is worth walking down. This town is really touristy. There are wine shops, beer gardens, bratwurst, ompa music...... the works. It still is a great place to visit, especially during a wine fest.
