Castle hopping in the Fall

Thank you Pinterest for helping me discover Schloss Ludwigsburg, Schloss Lichtenstein & Burg Hohenzollern! I was so excited to hit up all three of these places for a 2 day trip! We left after Rob got out of work and headed to Schloss Ludwigsburg for the big Pumpkin Festival. It is about a 2 hour drive from the KMC area. After spening a few hours walking around and seeing the sites, we headed to the city center nearby to grab dinner before checking into our hotel for the night.

The next morning we headed about an hour away to Schloss LichtensteinThe parking lot (2euro) is close to the castle entrance and there are free washrooms in the eatery next the parking lot.The position of this castle is marvelous and you won't regret if you stop by to see it. The inside tour (7euro) lasts around 30 minutes and is only in German, but you can get an English pamphlet for a 1euro deposit. You can only tour the castle with a guide. You can walk around the grounds without taking a tour for 2euro.

After waking around the grounds, we walked further past the castle grounds to check out the old ruins and some more spectacular views.

Our next stop was Burg Hohenzollern. This was a fantastic and well preserved castle built between 1850 and 1867 (except for one older part that houses the Catholic chapel). Amazing views over the countryside. It had an impressive fortified access ramp brings you from the entry gate upwards to the castle courtyard and buildings. You can buy a pass to simply visit the grounds, or pay a few Euros more for a guided tour. The tour is about 45 minute long and you get to wear some special slippers over your shoes to protect the floors.
