A Day out with Thomas

So... Rand is a little obsessed with trains, especially Thomas the Train. I heard Thomas was making a stop close to Fort Benning (well just under 2 hours away) at the Sam Shortline and I knew Rand would love it!

When we arrived we got a piece of paper where if we got 4 stamps at 4 different locations Rand would get a prize. We were sure to visit each stop to not only enjoy the activity (Music and Story time, Thomas train tables and coloring and crafts, meet Sir Topham Hatt and go to the gift shop) but to get a stamp.

After receiving all our stamps we got to meet Thomas before boarding the train for our departure at 12:45. Rand was so excited to meet Thomas and Sir Topham Hatt. When he first saw Thomas he shrieked with excitement and yelled "It is is BIG THOMAS!"
Rand had such a great time today and it was well worth the trip.

Flåm, Norway

We normally do not book excursions through the cruise line but we had to make an exception because we wanted to go on the famous Flåm railway and they sold out of tickets weeks ago on the day we needed.

Rob was looking forward to our train ride on the Flåm railway. It took 20 years to build - most of the tunneling was by hand! The Flåbana railway winds its way around the mountain side offering views of the waterfalls cascading down and the river. The railway does link Oslo and Bergen from Myrdal and is a true feat of engineering.

Our guide met us right at the port and we jumped onto a bus and drove through some very long tunnels which took us to Gudvangen. Major props to our bus (and driver) that climbed through the steep, narrow Nærøy valley. We traveled up the mountain roads, with many sharp bends, to reach the Sivlefossen Waterfalls.

Our trip continued to the town of Voss, where we had lunch overlooking the Vangvatnet Lake. After lunch we boarded a train to continue our trip across a range of stunning natural landscapes, before reaching Myrdal.

Here, at 867 metres above sea level, we changed trains and continued down the breathtaking Flåm valley, traveling on the world famous Flåm Line. The train passed by Kjosfossen waterfall where we got to get out and enjoy the lovely view before arriving at Flåm station, on the Sognefjord.
If you have time, get a glimpse of the museum next to the station, at what it took to build the railway.

Rand turns TWO!!!

Our sweet little bald, blue eyed, handsome baby boy, We can't believe that you are turning two years old today! You have taken us all by storm since the day you were born, always doing things your own way & surprising us with the unexpected every step of the way. Your smiles and laughter lights up the room. No matter how much fun you are having or even how upset you might be, you leap into our arms any chance you get and give us hugs and kisses. We are very blessed to be your parents and to celebrate you turning two this weekend!

Here are some pics of Rand's train theme birthday party.

Cochem and train travel

A couple days after Christmas, we took a train to Cochem to show Rob's Dad and sister some more cute German towns.
