Erdbeer picking

Right down the street from our village in Landstuhl is a strawberry field. Rand had a blast picking eating strawberries right off the vine!

Saint Malo & Mont St. Michel

After we checked out of our amazing B&B in Normandy, we headed west to Mont St Michel. On the way, we made a stop to Saint Malo. Saint Malo is a walled port city which was known for its privateering. We parked just outside the city walls and spent a few hours walking around and grabbing a bite to eat.

Mont Saint-Michel
It is a small island that is home to a fortified monastery. At high tide, the island is surrounded by water but at low tide (as you can see in our pictures) you can walk around the muddy ground. Mont St-Michel is a UNESCO World Heitage site and is about an hour and a half away from Normandy.

Our hotel was Hotel Gabriel and we had an amazing view of Mont St Michel from our window. We were right across the street from a bus stop (the bus is free) that took us right there. If you stay there (or any of the surrounding hotels), make sure to call ahead and get the code for the gate to drive to the hotel.
walking up to Mont St. Michel

We got there late in the evening so the place was a ghost town.
A few restaurants were open so we grabbed dinner and put Rand to bed. The views of Mont Saint Michel at night were stunning... as you can see.
After a delicious breakfast we headed up to Mont St Michel. This place is not stroller
friendly so be sure to use a carrier for babies.

Abbaye du Mont-Saint-Michel
We made sure to get there as soon as they opened so we could be one of the first to take a tour, so we could hit the road after lunch.
au revoir France!

Honfleur

I was so excited to take a trip to see Honfleur! This picturesque city is known for its old and beautiful port, characterized by its houses with slate-covered frontages. We enjoyed walking along this charming city hearing musicians play and seeing all these beautiful paintings by local artists. I wish we were able to stay a little longer.

Saint Catherine's Church
This church was made to look like a ship and is completely made out of wood. It is the
largest church made out of wood in France.

Rouen & Caen

During our stay in Normandy, we decided to take a day trip to a couple places outside of the D-Day sites. Rouen is where Joan of Arc was executed in 1431.

Rouen

Church of St. Joan of Arc

 Rue du Gros-Horloge

Cathedrale Notre-Dame de Rouen

St. Maclou's Church
I LOVED this church! I have never seen a white Cathedral before. They never knew it was white till a few years ago when they started to cleaned it, lol.

 Caen
Caen is known for its historical buildings built during the reign of William the Conqueror, who is buried here, and for the Battle of Caen in 1944, destroying much of the city.
