Switzerland ~ Lucerne

On our way home from Lauterbrunnen we stopped for lunch in Lucerne. Lucerne has a beautiful  Altstadt (Old Town) and the Kapellbrücke (Chapel covered bridge). This storybook Switzerland town has much to offer. We did not have time but would have loved to see Mount Pilatus and the Dying Lion of Lucerne Monument.

Switzerland~ Lauterbrunnen

Rob and I have really enjoyed hiking while in Europe and we have been wanting to hit up Switzerland for some time now. I found this amazing campground in Lauterbrunnen called Camping Jungfrau. It is decently priced (for Switzerland) and the location is breathtaking. The view from our front step was like a dream. You could see 5 waterfalls from our front porch!

 We rented a mobile home through Booking.com at Camping Jungfrau. It was a 2bedroom, 1 bath with a living room/ dinette and kitchen. We brought a cooler full of food for our stay in Switzerland along with a coal grill. I packed lunches everyday along with snacks for our hikes. 

The camping ground also has a hostel, a restaurant, a laundry facility, a small grocery store and much more! 

Our first full day in Switzerland, we took the cable car from Lauterbrunnen up to hike to Murren. During our hike, we quickly realized that a lot of the hiking trails were still closed for the winter. Be sure to check out the website for up to date info on the trails and cable car/ train routes.  

 

 After our hike from Murren to Gimmelwald, we took the cable car down to Stechelberg and hiked back to our campground. 

On a very somber note... while we were in Switzerland, it was the anniversary of our daughter's passing. To remember her, we scattered coral rose petals in the river coming from Gimmelwald to Lauterbrunnen. 

Lauterbrunnen and the area around was beautiful! I really wish we were able to visit during the peak hiking season this spring/summer but I feel like we made-do with the time we had there. 

Trümmelbach Falls is near Lauterbrunnen and is a great stop, especially if the weather is not that great. Parking is free but you will need to pay to get it.Trümmelbach Falls is one of the wildest glacier ravines in Europe with the ten waterfalls of the Trümmelbach hidden amongst the rocks. Make sure to stop and enjoy a view of the valley from the falls.

The next morning we headed out to Gimmelwald and hiked to Schiltbach.

Like I said before, we ran into a lot of closed trails. One had a bit of snow but we still took it… 4 hours later we ended up turning around because of an avalanche.
